The Romantic Leap Years

The Birthday Song - Corrinne May

Based on a novella by acclaimed writer Catherine Lim, the story is about Li-Ann, a young Singaporean girl who meets her 'special someone' on 29 February. She decides to base her intuition on an Irish leap year tradition that no man will refuse any request of a lady and invites him out for a date. Together, they embark on a romantic journey that spans over 12 years, meeting only thrice in 12 years, on the leap year.

“A saint once decreed that a man must agree to a woman’s proposal today.
Give me a sign whether to meet me at eight, at the same place you sit and fulfill the tradition of February 29.”

3 years back, I told someone that I want to be with someone who I can’t live without. She said that I’m naive, there is no one who can’t live without anyone. thinking back of what she said, I think it is so quite true. I’m indeed naive.

so now, I don’t want someone who I can’t live without (as she may not even exist). I want someone who makes me happy.

now, I’m so happy being a single. I suspect that I may not be as happy if I’m attached. o’ maybe because I haven’t meet that someone who can push me into the love river.

jeremy said, “It’s hard to resist the temptation of loving someone for the sake of being with someone, so I think you are really brave to wait for the right one to come along. People don’t want to be alone.”

I feel, it is even more brave to love someone for the sake of being with someone. this love requires much more effort than the true love, isn’t it? when loving someone becomes an EFFORT, it will be so sad and tiring.
